Stayfree Showcase #10

Stayfree Showcase #10

This was our first showcase at OMC Music Venue on Frog Island, by far the easiest one to transport equipment to as I just have to cross the road to get to it.

The opening band was brand new trio – Acute Echo, part of the Unglamorous project, they formed in May , had their first gig in June and have been busy gigging ever since! Their set might have been short but the really did pack a punch with their last song ‘Tina Turner’ the singer/guitarist wowed the crowed with their vocals. They left the stage with us all wanting more, I am excited to see where this band goes. The set was filmed so be on the look out on their social media!

Next up was the very established Unglamorous band; Venus Attax. Their opening song of the night appears on the ‘Unglamorous Sampler’ Album. Unfortunately drummer Carole was sick so the lovely Kala from The Verinos stood in for her for the evening. She received a bunch of flowers mid set as a thank you! Venus Attax’s songs are very eclectic and varying instruments come out for the different tracks. The one I caught here was about a village in Wales that was flooded for a reservoir.

Headliners, Natural Blondes played an amazing set. Amongst the very impressive guitar playing, the lead singer entertained us with his repertoire of jokes, okay mainly dad jokes but it went down well. Their style of rock, blues and a bit of rockabilly is refreshing, with a mixture of covers, medleys and original songs.
